Cookies over Art

Cookies and Art?

What a weird pairing some may say, however we believe that anything as delicious and as memory evoking as cookies have a space in the art gallery. Cookies are a food that is widely loved and the process of making cookies, is not unlike the mixing of paint or the casting of plaster, is a delicate mix of both science and art. Tasting it evokes memories of childhood, and we are often left thinking of the love that has been put into making each morsel and crumb. Same we would of each brush stroke of a painting.

Bakes by Ben

Ben is an autistic 17 years old determined to show that nothing can stop him enjoying life and introducing you to his signature Walnut Chocolate Brownies.

Ben's Mum encouraged him to get involved in the kitchen when he was just 6 years old. At first, he was fearful of all the kitchen utensils, sharp knives and the heat from the oven. He was afraid of being clumsy and the loud sound of the mixer, but he has prevailed over these motor and sensory issues to become the confident young chef that he is today.

Ben likes to bake and eat his favourite cakes. This passion has produced his famous Walnut Chocolate Brownies, attracting the support of many 'brownie fanatics.' With his confidence growing, his parents encouraged him to start a small business in March 2021, Bakes by Ben, as a way for him to acquire more life skills and assist towards his goal of independent living.

Subsequently, Ben has joined several fundraising events, using his culinary talents to benefit others. With the support of his family he wants to encourage everyone, whatever their situation. He says, "Every small step gets you one step closer to your dream. Never give up, if you don't try, you'll never know!"

Ben leads by example, showing us that every child has his own talent enabling them to enjoy a fulfilling life and be of service to the wider community.
